Description
The Queen's Head Inn is a Grade II* listed inn located on High Street in Sawston. It dates from the late 15th century, with alterations made in the 17th century and 19th-century additions. The building is timber-framed and plastered, featuring some old plastered panels, and has a painted brick plinth. It has a plain tiled roof with a painted red brick stack on the left and a ridge stack to the right of the center. The inn is two storeys tall and includes part wine cellars.
The structure has a long curved range with a continuous jetty at two different levels, supported by curved solid brackets, with two closely set brackets that may indicate an original doorway. On the ground floor, there is a four-panelled door to the right, one hung sash window with side lights, one originally fixed light window with glazing bars, and one horizontal sliding sash window. The first floor features two horizontal sliding sash windows and one casement window.
Inside, the inn has exposed chamfered ceiling beams and a crown post roof with an octagonal post that has a moulded cap and base on cambered tie beams. The Queen's Head Inn opened around 1810.
