Description
The White Lion Inn is an inn dating from the early 17th century, with alterations made in the 18th century and early 19th century additions. It features a timber-framed and plastered structure, with a brick plinth and slated roofs. The building has a two-storey central block, a one-storey and attic cross wing to the left, and two-storey additions to the right with a hipped roof. There are four chimney stacks and one end stack on the right side of the main range, which has been reduced.
On the east elevation, the main entrance is marked by a pilastered wooden doorcase, a high canopy supported by shaped brackets, and a half-glazed door. The ground floor has four twelve-paned hung sash windows, with four similar windows on the first floor and one in the attic. Inside, there are exposed stop-chamfered ceiling beams. The White Lion Inn was open by 1757.
