Description

The War Memorial, located at the junction of High Street and Church Lane in Sawston, is a medieval cross that was repaired in 1880 and modified in 1919 to serve as the village war memorial. It features a chamfered and mitred shaft made of Barnack limestone, set on a weathered octagonal base that transitions to a square shape. The 19th-century head is complemented by a granite plinth that lists the names of those who died in the First World War (1914-1918), the Second World War (1939-1945), and the Korean War (1950-1953). The memorial remains in its original location at the market-cross.
