Description

The Woolpack Public House is a house with a first-floor hall that has been converted into a public house. It dates back to the early 16th century, with later alterations and extensions, and was refronted around 1937. The building features a timber frame that is cased in painted gault brick. It has a 20th-century plain tiled roof, along with older plain tile and slated roofs at the rear. There is a gault brick ridge stack and a side stack on the left, with lower courses made of 18th-century brick. The building has a painted brick plinth and consists of two storeys and a cellar.

The main range has lower cross wings, with the first-floor hall located in the main range. The entrance is situated to the left of the centre and features a four-panelled glazed door. To the right, there is a bay window, along with two ground floor and three first floor transomed casement windows that share similar details.

Inside, there is a substantial timber frame with moulded cross beams in the central room, which has two bays. The upper hall features cranked braces connecting the posts to a raised tie beam. The cross wings have crown post roofs, with a surviving square-sectioned crown post in the north cross wing that has roll mouldings at the base and cap, along with braces to the collar purlins and collar. The upper hall may have originally been used for storage or as a trading hall.
