Description
Cherry Tree Cottage is a cottage that dates from the early 18th century, with early 19th-century alterations and recent restoration and extension in 1984. The building is timber framed, rendered, and has a long straw thatch roof with a ridge stack featuring two flues, which is rendered. The roof over the right-hand bay was raised in the 19th century. The cottage has a lobby entry plan and consists of two main bays with a narrower bay to the left. It is one storey high with an attic and features two dormers. There are three windows and a door, all installed in 1984. Inside, the original soft red brick forms the inglenook hearth, which includes a contemporary bread oven. The timber framing with straight bracing is intact in the rear wall, one end wall, and a partition wall, although the front wall has been rebuilt. In the early 19th century, the cottage was subdivided, a hearth was added to the right-hand room, the roof was raised and rebuilt, and a new doorway was created in the front wall.
