Description
No. 17 is a 17th-century cottage located on the south side of High Street in Melbourn. It features a timber frame with roughcast rendering, a steeply pitched tiled roof, and a grey brick ridge stack. The cottage has a typical three-bay and lobby entry plan, consisting of one storey and an attic, with one swept dormer. There are two fixed metal-frame windows, one of which has a small central opening, both equipped with raised and fielded panelled shutters. The doorway leads to the lobby entry. At the rear, there is a 19th-century kitchen addition, which is single storey with a lean-to slate roof. In the garden, there is a 19th-century three-bay barn that is timber framed, weatherboarded, and slated, along with a curtilage wall made of clay bat.
