Description

This is a house, formerly an inn and shop, dating from around 1840, with later additions. It is constructed of brick or clay, with a stuccoed finish. The roof is slate, with grey brick side stacks. The building features a double-pile plan with wings at each end, originally for carriageway access and a shop. The symmetrical front facade is framed by rusticated quoins. The central doorway has a reeded doorcase, and is flanked by two similar windows, each with raised keyblocks. To the left is a gabled, stuccoed wing for carriageway entry, featuring a round-headed archway with a raised surround, and a gable with the original site for a clock. The shop wing is on the right, single-storey with a slate roof and an original 19th-century shop front.
