Description

Long Thatch is a late 18th-century cottage located on the west side of The Moor, Melbourn. The building is timber framed or claybat, with plaster rendering on a flint plinth. The right-hand gable end and stack were originally claybat but have been repaired in brick. It has a long straw thatched roof with a grey brick ridge stack. The cottage follows a three-bay, lobby-entry plan, and comprises a single storey with attics. Two original framed dormers are visible. The original window and door openings remain, although they have been fitted with later casements and a door. The interior features two small, rebuilt abutting hearths and a visible slender tie beam made of softwood. The building is included on the register for its group value.
