Description
24 Market Square is an early 18th-century building that stands two storeys high and includes cellars and dormers. It has a double front with five windows and features a tiled roof adorned with three hipped dormers, which have a moulded cornice and glazing bars. The building is constructed of red brick with rubbed red brick dressings. It has a parapet with stone coping and recessed panels below a moulded cornice. The recessed sash windows are topped with gauged flat brick arches and have slightly recessed exposed boxing with glazing bars.
The entrance boasts a well-crafted wooden doorcase that is accessed by stone steps. This doorcase features pilasters that support an entablature with paterae in the frieze and an open pediment. The round-arched doorway includes a patterned fanlight and a panelled door. At the rear, there is a late 18th-century half-timbered wing with a plastered front, which also has recessed sash windows with glazing bars. The wooden doorcase at the rear is topped with a bracketed hood and has a reeded surround.
The building is part of a group that includes Nos 16 to 46 (even).
