Description

The Free Church, built in 1863 by John Tarring, is a double-fronted structure featuring a central broached steeple, nave, aisles, and an apsed south end. It showcases a decorated style with a stone frontage facing Market Place. The windows consist of three lights with geometrical tracery. The interior is plain, supported by thin cast iron columns. The Free Church is part of a group that includes Nos. 3 to 5 (consecutive), the Golden Lion Hotel, and the Town Hall. It also forms a group with No. 1, Free Church Hall, Nos. 4 to 6 (consecutive) Free Church Passage, and No. 7 The Quay.
