Description

5 Market Hill is an early 19th-century building located at the corner of Free Church Passage. It is three storeys high, constructed of gault brick with a slate roof. There is a decorative band between the storeys and projecting eaves that are supported by slender brackets. The corner of the building features a quadrant angle that contains a doorway. This doorway is flanked by reeded pilasters and has a simple entablature that extends across the original projecting shop front. The street front has two windows that include glazing bars. This building, along with Nos. 3 to 5 (consecutive), the Free Church, the Golden Lion Hotel, and the Town Hall, forms a group of significant structures.
