Description

The Free Church Hall, formerly the Independent Chapel, dates to circa 1811 and was altered in 1864 for use as a Free Church Hall. It is a two-storey building with four windows. The roof is hipped and covered with slate, and the walls are of multi-coloured stock brick. The first floor has round-arched sash windows with radial glazing bars. The ground floor has segmental-arched sash windows with original glazing bars, although the lower portion of one window was altered to create a doorway in 1864. The round-arched doorway is architraved, with block imposts, a keystone inscribed with the date 1811, a patterned fanlight, and panelled double doors. The building forms a group with the Free Church, Market Hill, and numbers 4 to 6 The Quay.
