Description
8 The Quay is a mid-18th century house that has been altered, particularly with a refronting in the late 19th century using red brick. The building stands three storeys tall and features five windows, presenting a double fronted appearance. The entrance includes a pedimented doorway that is flanked by splayed bay windows. The rear elevation also has three storeys, with the top storey added later, and maintains a double fronted design with five windows. This side is constructed of gault brick with red brick dressings and includes a moulded brick band at the first floor level. The windows are flush sash with segmental brick arches, architraves, and exposed boxing. There is a blocked wide segmental arched entrance that features an early 19th century doorway with an architrave hood, double doors with margin lights, and a patterned fanlight. This building is included for its group value with No. 3 and Nos. 5 to 8, which form a group with No. 1 Wellington Street.
