Description
7 The Quay is a building dating from the 18th century. It has a two-storey front that is cemented with a tiled roof. The front features two sash windows with flush frames, exposed boxing, and original glazing bars. There is a modern ground floor bow window, and two cottages at the rear are part of No. 7. The building also includes a 17th-century section that is two storeys high, with a half-timbered construction, painted brick infilling, and pargetted panels at the north end. This section has three windows and a modern roof, with Yorkshire windows at the first floor level. The original north doorway has a solid oak frame, a ledged and braced door, and a fanlight.
No. 3 and Nos. 5 to 8 (consecutive) form a group with No. 1 Wellington Street. Additionally, No. 7 The Quay and the Free Church on Market Hill form a group with No. 1, the Free Church Hall, and Nos. 4 to 6 (consecutive) on Free Church Passage.
