Description
21 Bridge Street is an early 19th-century refronting of an 18th-century house. The main building is three storeys high, constructed of painted brick with a slate roof. It has two windows with glazing bars, and a modern shop front that is consistent with the surrounding streetscape. A two-storey, mid-18th-century cottage is situated at the rear and forms part of the building. The original cottage is two storeys high with two windows and a double-fronted design. It features painted brick, tiled roofs, corbelled eaves, a brick band at first floor level, a cement dado, and square-headed, slightly recessed shop windows that were originally of the Yorkshire type with small panes of glass. A square-headed recessed doorway with a panelled door is also present. A two-storey addition was built in the 19th century to the east end of the house. Nos. 17 to 23 (the odd numbers) form a group.
