Description
The Manor House, located at 28 Bridge Street, is a late 16th-century building that has undergone significant modernization. It stands two storeys high with attics, featuring a timber-framed and plastered structure topped with a tiled roof. The street-facing side includes a carriageway in the middle of the ground floor, which has modern cement rustications. The first floor displays imitation half-timber work and roughcast, with four sash windows. Above, there are four original projecting gables adorned with enriched barge boards and a moulded bressummer that overhangs, decorated with a band of arabesque ornament.
The river-facing side has been refaced with gault brick but retains three projecting gables similar to those on the street front, complete with moulded barge boards and an enriched bressummer. A cast iron balcony and canopy extend along the river frontage. On the north side of the carriageway, there is a blocked doorway featuring a fine mid-18th-century architraved doorcase with pilasters that support an entablature, which includes an enriched frieze and a dentil cornice. On the south side of the carriageway, there is a late 18th-century doorway with a panelled surround, a patterned fanlight, and a panelled door. The Manor House is part of a group that includes Nos. 6 to 28 (even).
