Description
Nos. 24 and 26 Bridge Street is a single building dating from the late 17th century, with an early 18th-century frontage. It has two storeys and attics beneath a hipped tile roof, with a modern shop front on the ground floor that is separated by a carriageway. The structure is timber framed with flush plaster. The first floor features panelled pilasters with Ionic capitals at each end of the front, and the eaves are enriched with a wooden cornice that has carved modillion brackets. There are five windows in total: the three southernmost have moulded wood architraves, while the two northernmost are early 19th-century bow windows with reeded pilasters on the sides, all fitted with glazing bars. The attics include three flat-topped dormers. No. 26 has a moulded cornice at the first-floor level. The building also contains good interior features. Nos. 6 to 28 (even) form a group.
