Description
The Old Falcon Inn is a building located on Market Square, dating back to the late 15th century at the south end, with a back west wing and an extension to the north added in the late 17th century. The west wing was later heightened, and the building was refronted in the early 19th century. The original 15th and 17th century sections are timber-framed and plastered, while the early 19th century frontage features three storeys and four windows, constructed of painted brick. The roof is modern tile, and there are stone bands between the storeys. A fluted band and a small moulded cornice are present at the eaves. The windows have flat stone arches with key blocks and glazing bars; the two northernmost windows consist of three lights, and the third window on the first floor is a small curved oriel with an enriched cornice and corbelled bracket. The ground floor includes a central carriageway, a bay window on the left, and a doorcase with a reeded surround and cornice. The Old Falcon Inn, along with Nos 6 and 8, forms a group.
