Description
The Royal Oak Hotel, located at 38 and 40 High Street, is a 19th-century building designed in the Tudor style. It has two storeys and cellars, featuring four gabled window bays. The roof is tiled and topped with a wooden lantern. The gables are jettied and bracketed, showcasing half-timbering and barge boards. The first floor is roughcast, while the ground floor is made of painted brick, displaying a tiled public house frontage with Ionic pilasters that support an entablature. The first floor includes splayed bow windows, and the ground floor of the Royal Oak Hotel features three-light windows with colonette mullions. No. 40 has a modern shopfront. Nos 38 to 44 form a group.
