Description
The remains of the Benedictine Priory of St Ivo are located in the garden of Priory House on Priory Road. These structures, originally part of a priory barn built in the 14th century, were dismantled in 1858. The walls are constructed from coursed Barnack rubble with ashlar dressings and stand to eaves level along the south side. They measure eighty-eight feet by thirty-four feet and were arranged in five bays, each with two blocked loops, separated by buttresses and diagonal corner buttresses. Former entrances likely existed in the center of the long north and south walls. The remains now serve as garden walls for The Priory, a house built in 1870, which may cover other monastic buildings.
