Description

The service range, or former stable range, is located about 20 metres south-east of Elton Hall on the south-western side of the open courtyard. This building dates from the early 18th century and has some 19th-century alterations. It is constructed of coursed freestone and limestone rubble with ashlar dressings, topped by a hipped roof made of Collyweston stone slates. The building is one storey high with attics and features a coved eaves cornice. An ashlar band runs continuously at lintel height, adorned with rising keystones above the arches.

On the left side, there is a doorway with a double-leafed flush-panelled door, while to the right, there are three similar doorways, one of which is blocked and has an inserted window. The building includes seven casement windows with rectangular upper lights that resemble the rectangular fanlights above the doors. Additionally, there are five hipped dormer casement windows and three flat-roofed dormer windows with fixed lights and glazing bars. The service range, along with separate ranges to the south-east and north-east, partly encloses a stable yard on three sides, with the north-east range having been altered in the late 19th century.
