Description

The stable range located to the northeast of Field House is likely from the mid-18th century, with some additions and alterations made in the mid-19th century. It is constructed of thin coursed stone and features stone slate roofs, forming an L-shaped plan. The southeast block is two storeys high and consists of three bays, with a secondary range extending to the rear right.

The southeast front of this block appears to have been added in the mid-19th century, as it does not appear on the 1854 Ordnance Survey map. It has a symmetrical facade with ashlar dressings, a plinth, and a six-panel door set in a stone surround with a fanlight above, all within a round-headed architrave. Above the door is an elliptical oculus, and on either side are arched doorways, now glazed, each with an oculus above. The openings are accented with alternatively rusticated quoins and carved-head keystones. A mounting block is situated to the right of the central doorway.

On the left side of the southeast block, there is a reused 17th-century six-light double-chamfered mullion window beneath a heart-stopped hoodmould, with a similar transomed four-light window and hoodmould above it. To the left of this is an earlier half bay featuring a two-light flat-faced mullion window on each floor.

Set back to the left is the secondary range, which includes a carriage arch on the right with a rusticated keystone. Above this arch is a two-light window, with a door and another window to its left, and paired gutter brackets. The right return of the secondary range has an opposing carriage arch with a carved-head keystone, doorways at either end, and slit vents. There is a 20th-century garage to the right of the archway, which is not of special interest.
