Description

The March and District Museum is a building that was originally a school, constructed around 1850. It features carstone slate walls complemented by gault brick and Ketton dressings. The roof is steeply pitched and covered with slate, including lead louvre ventilation. At each end, there are tall stacks with two linked shafts. The school hall is a single storey and has two four-light cross-frame casements set in square heads with drip moulds. There is a central doorway with a four-centred arch, above which is a raised gable that displays a stone tablet with a scroll and the inscription "Erected by the Trustees of March Consolidated Charities." The building also includes a cross-wing that is two storeys high, featuring a two-storey bay at the front.
