Description

Town Hall. Built in 1900 by W. T. Unwin, it is a red brick building with stone dressings and a steeply pitched slate roof. The building is two storeys high and topped by an elaborate clock tower and spire. Windows are hung sashes with raised surrounds and ogee heads. A moulded band separates the two storeys. The clock tower has five stages with a porch to the ground stage. A roundheaded arch frames a double doorway, flanked by paired tapering pilasters with a stepped cornice and a date stone above. The clock tower features stone detailing, a steeply pitched copper roof, a bell turret, and a figure of Britannia.
