Description
The Memorial to Richard Young, located on the south side of Lynn Road in Wisbech, is a Grade II listed structure. It commemorates Richard Young, who was born in 1809 and died in 1871, and was known as the greatest ship owner in Wisbech. The memorial was erected in 1872 and underwent restoration after sustaining damage from a gale in 1883. It was designed by J. Wallis Chapman of London. The memorial is constructed from pink granite with sandstone dressings. It features a column topped with a free Corinthian capital and a finial adorned with trefoiled panels, which is surmounted by an urn. The base is a square plinth with corner buttresses, and it is inscribed with the words 'Memorial to Richard Young'.
