Description
The Church of St Augustine is a church built in 1869 as part of the Park development scheme, designed by architect Mr. Bassett-Smith. It is constructed from yellow gault brick with red brick banding and decorative elements, along with limestone dressings. The church features a slate roof adorned with red patterned ridge tiles and is designed in the Gothic style.
The structure includes buttressed bays for the single-storey chancel and aisles on both the north and south sides of the nave, which has a clerestory. The windows are designed with trefoiled lights, arranged in pairs or threes, and have stone cills. The gable parapets are topped with stone copings and 'kneelers', and there is a cross finial on the west and a bell turret on the east of the nave. Moulded brick cornices add to the architectural detail.
The entrance is located in the north aisle, with a west gable entrance featuring a two-centred, stone-coped arch. The interior remains intact, showcasing contemporary and later memorial stained glass.
