Description

3 and 5 Downham Road consist of a pair of 18th-century brick houses. They are two storeys high and feature a four-window range. The ground floor windows are double-hung sashes with glazing bars, while the first-floor windows are horizontal sliding sashes. The windows are set within plain stucco architraves, with sills supported by small brackets beneath the first-floor windows. The ground floor incorporates three-light Venetian windows with rusticated, arched central lights. A raised brick band runs along the building between the two storeys. The doorways are topped with semi-circular fanlights contained within plain stucco surrounds and rusticated stucco arches. The roofs are tiled with old Cambridgeshire tiles. These houses are part of a group that includes numbers 2 to 5 (odd), 20, 22, 22A, 24 to 30 (even), 34, 36, 36A, 38, and 40 to 60 (even), located on St Mary’s Street.
