Description
Seven tombstones are located in a line to the north of the tower of the Parish Church of St Margaret in Chippenham. The first tombstone is dated 1727 and features an hourglass and skull flanking a winged cherub. The second tombstone has swags and a cherub with a raised oval plaque and a weathered inscription, dating from the 18th century. The third is a tablet at the head of a low table tomb, which includes a foot stone and is decorated by two cherubs and a skull, also from the 18th century. The fourth tombstone, dated 1735, has a rectangular plaque with two cherubs and a skull, positioned at the head of a table tomb with a foot stone. The fifth tombstone, also dated 1735, features two cherubs and a skull and is similarly located at the head of a table tomb with a foot stone. The sixth tombstone displays two palm leaves with an angel, while the seventh is a tablet with a shaped head, featuring two palm leaves and an angel.
