Description

Four rows of tombstones are located south of the south transept and chancel of the parish church of All Saints in Morborne. These tombstones date from the 18th century and early 19th century and are made of carved limestone slabs. The rows are identified as A-D from west to east.

In Row A, the first stone has a shouldered head with an unclear inscription, the second features a shouldered elliptical head with a large round plaque, a deeply carved dove, and two putti. The third is similar to the second but has unclear inscriptions, while the fourth has a scrolled head with putti and an unclear inscription.

Row B includes a square-headed stone with an unclear inscription, and a scrolled head with two putti and a moulded arched head to the plaque, also with an unclear inscription.

Row C features two stones with similar shaped heads and unclear inscriptions that were originally painted black, and a segmental head with putti and ribband decoration, along with a laurel garland to an oval plaque with an unclear inscription.

Row D contains a stone dated 1780, which has a shouldered head with putti and leaf ornament enclosing a plaque; another with a segmental head and shouldered segmental headed plaque featuring three putti and an unclear inscription; a segmental head with a central putti and scroll and swag decoration; and finally, a square head with a shouldered plaque that has an unclear inscription, originally painted black.
