Description

Church Farmhouse is an early to mid-18th century farmhouse originally located on the High Street in Chippenham. It is constructed of local buff bricks with steeply pitched plain tile roofs. The building has outshots that are partly timber framed and rendered, and features large gable stacks with brick bands. The farmhouse is two storeys high with attics and a basement, presenting a symmetrical facade. A brick band runs along the first floor, and lacing timber beneath the eaves suggests a possible original cornice. The facade originally had five “bays” with two windows sealed at each floor level. There are three first-floor cross-framed casement windows, one with a lightly moulded original frame set within a segmental arch. Two original three-light ground floor casement windows remain. A 19th-century open porch provides access to the front door, which is panelled with four lower panels and one glazed panel. The interior largely dates to the 19th century, although some 18th-century doors survive.
