Description
No 35 on North Street is a house that was formerly an inn known as 'The Queen's Arms'. It was built in 1587, with the date and initials RR carved into a ceiling beam. The building features a timber frame, clunch, and painted brick, topped with a modern pantile roof and plain tile gabled dormer windows that have casements. It has a three-unit plan and consists of one storey and an attic, with a two-storey wing to the west that also has attics. There is a gable stack and a ridge stack made of local brick. The house has two casement windows on the first floor and three three-light casement windows on the ground floor, along with a brick plinth.
Inside, there are a pair of roll and hollow chamfered ceiling beams, along with a carved cross beam positioned before the hearth. There is also a pair of possibly similar beams boxed in the room to the east, and one axial beam with similar moulding in the room to the west. The inglenook hearth has modern brick facing and a mantel beam. The attic floor frame is exposed in the bedroom to the west.
