Description

Shenstone House is an early 17th-century farmhouse, originally of three unit plan, with an 18th-century wing added to the south. The original section is cased in variegated yellow and red brick in a chequer pattern, while the later wing is built of clunch. Both have plain tile roofs. The 17th-century range is one storey and an attic, and the 18th-century range is two storeys with a basement and attics. The 18th-century wing features a brick plinth, bands between floors, and a west-facing parapetted gable with two four-paned sash windows. Dormer windows light the attic, and there are two first-floor and two ground-floor sash windows, all with four panes. A four-panelled door is approached by stone steps to the left. Inside, the 17th-century range retains cyma moulded ceiling beams with stop-chamfered joists. The 18th-century section includes two-panelled doors and a closed string staircase with 19th-century turned balusters.
