Description
The Clare College Boathouse, built between 1898 and 1900, is a two-storey structure made of red brick with a pantiled roof. It features a four-window range. The ground floor has two pairs of timber boathouse doors set beneath basket arches. The first floor boasts a full-width timber balcony supported by square-section timber posts, accessible via a ladder staircase at the east end. The balcony's balustrade consists of repeated open squares within cross bracing. The first-floor windows include two central two-light casements, with the left one developed into a French window, and one outer three-light casement on each side. The hipped roof has a deep overhang, with the soffit facing the river adorned with five registers of triple drop pendants, the outer ones being doubled in depth. There are stacks on the east and west roof slopes. Additionally, there is a single-storey extension on the left (west) side, added in the late 20th century, which features double doors and a gable facing. The interior has not been inspected.
