Description
High House is an early 18th-century house located on High Road in Horndon-on-the-Hill. It is constructed of red brick featuring flared headers, topped with a parapet wall and a grey slate roof with tile capping. The building stands two storeys high, with cellars and attics. It has a six-window range of double-hung vertical sliding sashes that include glazing bars, cambered heads, cased frames, and brick aprons supported by brackets. There are three flat dormers fitted with casements. At the south end, there is a carriage arch with original doors that have raised and fielded panels, curving down to the centre. The entrance features an open pedimented doorcase supported by columns, leading to a six-panel door approached by steps. A date panel inscribed with "W. K. 1728" is also present. The interior boasts good 18th-century detailing.
