Description
36 and 37 High Street are a pair of cottages from the Shuttleworth Estate, marked with plaques indicating they were built in 1881 and featuring the Shuttleworth emblem. The cottages have a colourwashed roughcast render with decorative timber framing, likely over a brick structure. They are topped with a clay tile roof that has bands of fishscale tiles. The buildings are designed in the cottage ornee style, are L-shaped, and consist of one storey with attics. They feature cast iron lattice casements throughout, mostly with three lights. There is a gabled open porch on the south elevation, and an external chimney stack on the south wall, along with a multiple ridge stack on the north block. Both chimney stacks are made of red brick and have octagonal flues with moulded cornices. These cottages are included for their group value.
