Description

Two houses, at 24 and 26 High Street, were likely originally a single property and feature shops on the ground floor. The building probably began as a 17th-century timber-framed structure, which was then encased in an early 18th-century brick facade, subsequently reworked in the 19th and 20th centuries. The front elevation is partly rendered and colourwashed, topped by a 20th-century tile roof. The facade has five windows. The building is two storeys high with attics. The ground floor now has two 20th-century shop fronts flanking a central passage entrance. The first floor contains three 20th-century casement windows and two early 19th-century sash windows with glazing bars and pedimented wooden valances. The attic has three box dormers. A moulded wooden eaves cornice runs along the top. An off-centre rainwater head indicates the date 1718.
