Description
The Statue of Mercury and Cupid is located on the east side of the Long Canal, about 70 meters from the north end. It is made of Portland stone and features a square pedestal beneath it.
The statue stands approximately 2.5 meters high. Mercury is depicted with his right arm raised, pointing to the sky, while his left hand gestures towards the ground, possibly symbolizing flight. Drapery falls from his right hand, partially covering his body. At Mercury's feet, the winged Cupid is seen tying a sandal to his foot, with a quiver on his back and a bow resting on the ground.
The pedestal dates from the 19th century. It has curved corners on the moulded cap and base sections, while the die is square.
