Description

The statue of Lady Jemima, located 27 meters south of the West Half House, is a Grade II* listed structure. It features a pedestal made of Portland stone, which stands on a plinth and supports a lead statue above. The statue is approximately 2.5 meters high and dates from the mid-18th century. The pedestal has a moulded base and cap, with panels on each side of the die.

The figure's left arm rests on a substantial urn that is decorated with bold gadrooning. Her head is partially covered by the top of her classical drapery, which drapes over her back, down her left shoulder, and across her legs. She holds a book, which is detailed to suggest printed script. The hem of her dress features an intricate zig-zag pattern, with a four-leaf clover shape in each segment. On her feet, she wears classical sandals fastened with a heart-shaped buckle.

Graffiti carved into her back includes the date '1750', various letters, and at a higher level, the inscription '1950/REPAIRED or REPAINTED', along with some undecipherable names beneath.
