Description

The Statue of Apollo, made of Portland stone, is situated 40 meters south of West Half House. It features a square pedestal set on a plinth, with the statue of Apollo positioned above.

The statue depicts Apollo as a young man with thick hair, wearing a cloak fastened by a brooch on his left shoulder, which he reaches for with his right arm. He stands next to a tree stump, from which two leafy branches extend, with one end of his cloak resting on the stump and the other draping over his groin. His left hand is placed on his strung bow, and a dead python lies at his feet. The back of the statue is plain, indicating it was intended to be viewed from the front only, although there are two pin holes that may have once held carved folded drapery at the rear.

The pedestal consists of a plinth with a fascia and moulded torus, a die with fielded panels on all sides, and a cap featuring cymatium, torus, and cavetto moulding.
