Description
The Chinese Summerhouse, located on the south side of North Broad Water, is a Grade II listed structure built of timber with a lead-covered roof. It has a rectangular plan and is set on a stone plinth. The summerhouse features open sides and front, topped with a two-stage, hipped pagoda roof that is crowned by a crouching wyvern, which is an emblem of the Grey family. Ornamental bells are hung from the upturned corners of each stage of the roof. The painted timber panelling is adorned with applied fret work both inside and outside, and there is open fret work decoration at the eaves level and at the top of the first stage of the roof. Inside, the summerhouse has a stone floor and a simple timber bench that runs parallel to the rear wall.
