Description

The grave monument to W.E. Henley is located at St John the Baptist Church and was created in 1903. It features a memorial slab dedicated to his daughter Margaret, which is set into the rear of the monument. The structure is made of stone and includes metal panels with low relief sculpture. It is designed in the form of a primitive Doric aedicule. W.E. Henley was a well-known poet, and his ashes, along with those of his wife, are buried in the grave of his daughter Margaret, who is also interred in the churchyard. Margaret served as the inspiration for 'Wendy' in J.M. Barrie's story of Peter Pan.
