Description
The Crinkle Crankle Wall at Home Farm is a garden wall that forms the northern side of a walled orchard. It dates from the late 18th century, with repairs made in the 19th century. The wall is constructed of red brick laid in Flemish bond and features a plain brick coping. It stands approximately 2 metres high and stretches about 60 metres long. The design is angular rather than curving, consisting of 10 zigzags, with a short section of straight wall added in the 19th century at the center. Each end of the wall returns to run southwards for about 5 metres, beyond which the garden is enclosed by lower 19th-century walls. This wall is noted as an example of an architectural feature that is rarely found in this area and is the only known example in Bedfordshire.
