Description

This is a 17th-century dovecote, originally located at Home Farm in Wrestlingworth and Cockayne Hatley, now situated at Randalls Close, No 2. The dovecote is a timber-framed structure. The west and south sides are clad in weatherboarding, the north side has brick infilling in the lower part and rendering in the upper part, and the east side has a lower part rebuilt in mottled brick with a rendered upper part. It has a clay tile roof, hipped to the lower part with a gablet to the upper part, and weatherboarded ends. A 19th-century plank stable door is on the east side, and a small sash window is on the west side. There are two single lights on the south side. The interior retains wattle and daub nesting boxes and ledges in most parts, except for the lower part of the east wall; approximately 169 boxes (13 x 13) are on each wall.
