Description

Nether Hall is a house that has been subdivided into several properties. It dates from the 18th century and was extended and heightened in the early 19th century, with further reworking and extensions in the late 19th century. The building is constructed of red brick, with the earlier part featuring a chequerwork pattern made from flared headers. It has hipped slate roofs.

The main block is three storeys high and has a four-window facade, with two-storeyed blocks projecting to the rear from the left-hand end, creating an overall L-plan. The right-hand bay of the main block is an early 19th-century addition. The original three-window facade is symmetrically arranged. All windows are early 19th-century sashes with glazing bars set in shallow reveals and topped with gauged brick flat arches.

The central doorway features a gauged brick semi-circular arched head, a six-panel door with sidelights, and is surmounted by a semi-circular fanlight with ornamental radiating glazing bars. The right-hand bay has similar sashes on the first and second floors, and there is a blocked elliptical carriage arch on the ground floor. The building has a variety of red brick chimney stacks, including a 19th-century one that projects from the front elevation between the third and fourth bays.

Ornamental wrought iron railings and a round-arched gateway with double gates line the road edge, with the gateway aligned with the front door.
