Description
The Rose and Crown Public House is a Grade II listed building located on the north side of Potton Market Square. This public house, which has been subdivided, features a shop on the ground floor of No. 13. It dates from the 18th century, with some alterations made in the 19th century. The building is constructed of red brick and has a two-span clay tile roof, rising to three storeys with a double-pile plan and a five-bay front elevation.
The left-hand bay includes a two-storey canted bay with moulded pilaster surrounds and cornices, while the right-hand bay features a double shop front topped by a first-floor canted bay, also with moulded pilaster surrounds and a cornice. Both canted bays have sash windows with glazing bars. The remaining windows are also sash windows with glazing bars, set beneath gauged brick heads.
There is an open pediment doorcase in the second bay, which contains a six-panel door topped by a semi-circular fanlight with radiating glazing bars. A stucco band runs along the first floor level, and there is a stuccoed parapet with a moulded cornice. Red brick integral stacks are present at both gable ends.
