Description

This is one of a pair of urns located at the south end of a private garden on the south side of Woburn Abbey. The urn dates from the early 19th century and is made of limestone. It stands approximately 2.5 metres high in total, featuring a rectangular plinth with a moulded base and cap. The urn itself has a trumpet-shaped stem that is stepped at the base and has simple moulding where it meets the bowl. The bowl is adorned with acanthus decoration at the base and a bayleaf wreath just below the rim, both of which are deeply carved. The cover of the urn is topped with a coronet finial. This urn forms a pair with another urn nearby.
