Description

This urn is one of a pair located at the south end of a private garden on the south side of Woburn Abbey. It is likely from the early 19th century and made of limestone. The total height of the plinth and urn is approximately 2.5 meters. The rectangular plinth features a moulded base and cap. The urn itself has a trumpet-shaped stem that is stepped at the base and has simple moulding where it meets the bowl. The bowl is decorated with acanthus leaves at the base and a bayleaf wreath just below the rim, both of which are deeply carved. The cover of the urn is topped with a coronet finial. This urn forms a pair with another urn nearby.
