Description
No. 7 Church Street is a 17th-century building with a tile-hung facade that has been altered by modern shop fittings. A tall carriageway at the front leads to the yard of the Honour of Ampthill offices. On the west side, there is a two-storey brick range, showcasing early use of Flemish bond, featuring a shaped stringcourse and five windows, some of which are sashed and others casements. Additionally, there is a long barn that is partly constructed of brick in English bond and partly half-timbered with plaster infilling; this barn was used to receive the revenues of the Honour. It still displays a large moulded plaster plaque with the initials 'W H', representing William Hart, the receiver for the queen dowager Henrietta Maria, indicated by her fleur-de-lys. On the east side, there are remnants of late 18th-century storage buildings, including a one-storey brick structure with a blue chequered pattern, featuring two doors and four small round-headed casement windows. This building is part of a group with Nos. 1 to 39 (odd) and the Court House, along with No. 127 Dunstable Street.
