Description

This is an early 18th-century building on Church Street, originally listed as the King’s Arms Hotel. It is three storeys high, constructed with purple brick dressings, now painted cream. The brickwork features header courses, with stretchers used to frame the windows. The corners of the facade are canted upwards for approximately 9 feet, projecting outwards in elaborate brick mouldings that form true corners. A finely moulded brick cornice is topped by a late 18th-century parapet. There are five windows on the front elevation. The door is made up of six panels, four of which are fielded. The interior, particularly the staircase, may be of special interest. The building is part of a group with numbers 1 to 39 (odd) and the Court House, relating to number 127 Dunstable Street.
