Description

The pump in the Market Place is a stone obelisk set on a vermiculated plinth. It features an iron handle and spout for use as the Town Pump. At the top, there is an iron socket designed for a lamp, although the actual lamp is no longer present. The obelisk has distances engraved on each face, indicating the distance to significant towns in each direction. Additionally, an inscription runs around the base of the obelisk on all four faces, stating: "ERECTED BY/THE EARL OF/UPPER OSSORY/AD MDCCLXXXV. AM."
